Dr Malek Bajbouj

It is an honour to welcome Professor Malek Bajbouj to the Advisory Board of The Neuropsychotherapist. He is Professor of Psychiatry and Affective Neuroscience at the Benjamin Franklin campus, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin (one of the largest university hospitals in Europe).

Professor Bajbouj is also the Co-Director of the Dahlem Institute for Neuroimaging of Emotion, Berlin, and Adjunct Professor, Department of Psychology, Freie Universitaet, Berlin. His main research interests are clinical affective sciences and the treatment of affective disorders with brain stimulation techniques, and individual differences in emotional competencies and emotional memory.

Professor Bajbouj started his medical education at the Medical School Mainz, in both Germany and Switzerland. He achieved his Medical Doctorate, Department of Neurology, University of Mainz, in Germany, and was Board Certified in 2001 in Clinical Neurophysiology - Electroencephalography, and in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in 2006. He has been a Research Fellow of the Department of Neurology and Neurophysiology at the University Witten/Herdecke, Germany. Also a Research Fellowship, Department of Psychiatry, Freie Universität Berlin and Guest Research Fellowship, Department of Biological Psychiatry, Columbia University, New York, USA. During 2004-2009, he was Assistant Professor of Brain Stimulation and Neurophysiology, at the Department of Psychiatry, Charité, Berlin, Germany. And head of the Therapeutic Brain Stimulation Unit, also at the Department of Psychiatry, Charité, Berlin, Germany.
