Welcome to the final issue of The Neuropsychotherapist for 2016. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing with us in this exciting and worthwhile endeavour to see the marriage of science and psychotherapy bear real fruit in the lives of those who need it most. In the coming years I would like to see us grow into a vibrant online community, both partaking of and collaborating in the rapid growth of knowledge in the field. I encourage you to join the online community at our website and share your knowledge.
We have reached Part 11 of our Psychotherapist’s Essential Guide to the Brain, in which we learn about the default mode network and why our brains are thinking socially when we are not engaged in other tasks.
This month we have consciousness expert Paul Nunez speaking on the science and philosophy of mind and why this is important to the field of mental health.
Behavioural medicine and health expert Leslie Korn takes us on a sweeping survey of digestion processes and gut health and how this relates to mental well-being, continuing a theme on nutrition and mental health that we have canvassed over a number of issues.
The battlefield, unarguably, is one of the most stressful places we could find ourselves. Dan Pronk, a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and an instructor on the Royal Australian College of Surgeons Early Management of Severe Trauma course, has first-hand experience of such stress. He writes about the body’s stress response system, its evolution, and everyday function.
The Last Word this month goes to Richard Hill, who shares with us a muse on complex systems, nonlinear dynamics, and self-organisation.
I wish you all a wonderful Christmas season and a prosperous 2017 in all your endeavours.

Ed.
