CONTENTS

As 2015 draws to a close, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you, our readership, for supporting us through this venture and adventure of neuroscience informing psychotherapy. With virtually no budget, no financial support from any institution, but with amazing personal support from some of the leading experts in the field today, we have been successfully publishing since April 2013—an achievement only possible due to our enthusiastic band of subscribers. Thank you.

This month we have a piece from our regular contributor in Germany, Malek Bajouj, on the mental health of the recent migrants from the Middle East to Europe. Georg Northoff, also a regular contributor, discusses what we can learn about the mind and brain by inferring the healthy mind from observations of unwell brains. Rocco Gennaro also joins us to talk about his recent project Disturbed Consciousness: New Essays on Psychopathology and Theories of Consciousness, the fruit of a gathering of philosophers and other scholars to look at, and debate, theories of consciousness and how these account for certain psychopathologies. And from an altogether different perspective we have James Greenblatt and Kayla Grossman talking about the exciting role lithium may play in Alzheimer’s disease.

I do hope you enjoy this issue and all that we have worked enthusiastically to bring you this year. I wish you a wonderful Christmas season and look forward to publishing new insights from contributors across the globe in 2016.

Neurophilosophy and the Healthy Mind: Learning from the Unwell Brain

The aim of Georg Northoff’s latest work is to infer the healthy mind from the unwell brain. Doing so unlocks the potential for change in our philosophical concepts that could help us properly describe what philosophers call mind and brain.

Lithium: The Cinderella Story About a Mineral That May Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimerís disease is typified by crippling memory loss and is a major health concern with significant social and economic consequences for society in general. However, little is known about how to treat the disease. Lithium is an unassuming prevention strategy that is showing promise.
