Hi Mary and thanks for your comments here—sounds like an interesting approach to memory reconsolidation. I like your “intentional attention” because, as you say, there is a stigma attached to hypnosis - probably around a sense of loss of control by the client. I’d love to know more about how you lead a client through intentional attention (…[Read more]

Hello Nicole & Matthew,
I am certified in Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT), which has been an amazing tool for helping my clients. RRT utilizes “hypnosis” or “accelerators” on an as needed basis. While this form of therapy has not been listed in Ecker’s writings, myself and many other therapists have found it incredibly useful in establishing…[Read more] -

An old age question but one that continues to fascinate me and is also relevant to the exercise motivation is the occurrence of people being motivated by others despite having heard the same message previously. In the case of life threatening behaviour neurological mechanisms are more readily understood as the fear response is engaged. In other…[Read more]

Good question Steve - the answer, no doubt, has so many variables for each individual that it would be difficult to come up with blanket answers. I know the benefits of exercise as well as anyone and yet have been in a very slack season myself, and not exercising as I should, and putting on weight. Now, at the age of 49, I’ve got this motivation…[Read more]

Exercise is free and the benefits are great - so what do you think? Why is it so difficult to motivate people to do exercise?

Hi,
I read with great interest select literature on the topic of memory reconsolidation, including NPT’s issue 10 January 2015, its source article in the International Journal
of Neuropsychotherapy (Ecker, B. (2015)) and the book Unlocking the Emotional Brain (Routledge 2012).
Following these readings, the following questions came to m…[Read more]-
Thanks so much for the questions and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Let me reach out to other’s who would know better than I and see what sort of answers we get back.

So I put this out there to people who know better than I, and this is the response from Ken Benau who is has a lot of knowledge around memory reconsolidation:
Dear Matthew,
I would like to offer some ways I think about each question. To be clear, my reflections are NOT based upon my CT or MR work with either HOCD (with which I have no…[Read more]-
Matthew - thank you very much for having reached out to experts to help me clarify the point above.
Ken - thank you very much for your exhaustive response.

Here’s more from Ron…
In regards to the patient with HOCD, it is absolutely an attempt to control the environment, as is all OCD. I would suggest that this attempt is a coping mechanism that is designed to prevent something terrible from happening, in the mind of the patient. So, underlying the OCD is fear, or terror.
My approach would…[Read more]

Thanks again to Matthew and Ron for the feedback. Greatly appreciated!
